January 14th Taylor and Dara

Today a group of classmates walked three miles to school around the lagoon. Class was held in a different room at Escoloa de Artes Visuais Do Parque Lage with intricate stone walls, floors and ceilings. During class we studied and learned about sense of place and patterns. We also presented our individual Brazilian Artists and Native Plants. After class we took a taxi back to the Hotel Apoador Inn to pack for a surprise night in Copacabana. Our luggage was very heavy because we also had to pack for our week in Manus. We made sure to pack for our night in hammocks and our ferry ride on the Rio Negro. We had a small miscommunication where we could leave the rest of our three week supply of luggage. This is one example of why all students need to learn Portuguese before they come to Brazil. Around 2:30 pm we checked into a new hotel in Copacabana, MirSol. It is much bigger than our previous hotel it has sixteen floors a rooftop pool, bar, gym and sauna. The rest of the afternoon we spent by the pool. Tomorrow we have a free day and we all plan to go to visit the Inpanema Hippie Fair that takes place in the square every Sunday.
