Meg and Brittney January 11th

On January 11th, we went to Burle Marx's studio to learn about different designs that he has worked on and others that are being worked on now by his team. They showed us sketches that they drew out and designs that they put on photoshop to make the designs look more realistic.

After, we went to three different gardens that were designed by Burle Marx. The first one was the Green Roof. This one, we were not allowed to go onto, but we went to the top floor of the building to look down on it. It was a cool experience, but it wouldn't be a place that we would choose to hang out in. The shaping of the garden was very abstract with a lot of concrete. The second garden, Bndes, was a very relaxing environment. It was less staged and the plants grew together to give it a more natural feel. With the shade around us, it was the perfect space to sketch and hangout. The third garden, Petrobras, had a mixture of plants, as well as fountains and statues.

Finally, we went to the Metropolitan Cathedral. From the outside, we couldn't even tell that it was a Cathedral! As a tall trapezoid structure, it was a very interesting design. The inside is huge and it had a basement with tombs of past archbishops. The inside of the Cathedral has tall stain glass windows, with a cross of Jesus in the center the hall.

We enjoyed the gardens and Cathedral and even learned how to use the Metro! Can't wait to explore more of Rio, so far the trip has been amazing!
